Netiquette = Network Etiquette, e-mail Etiquette, and Proper Technology Use
Netiquette primarily involves any communication you may send out or receive from the net.
“Using technology effectively to communicate with others
with knowledge, understanding and courtesy.”
e Mail is a great tool for business and personal communication. e Mail is cheaper and faster than a letter, less intrusive than a phone call, less hassle than a FAX. Using e mail, differences in location and time zone are less of an obstacle to communication.
For most organisations e mail is now the standard way of communicating within organisations, with customers, external contacts, and business partners.
These days people may never meet colleagues or clients face-to-face. Your e-mail message may be the first and only impression of you, so take great care in composing your message.
Communicating by e mail is almost the same as writing on your company letterhead. A business communication is a business communication and a certain degree of formality is required. Just because e mail tends to be more immediate and personable, it doesn’t need to get familiar.
“There are four ways, and only four ways, in which we have contact with the world. We are evaluated and classified by these four contacts: what we do, how we look, what we say, and how we say it.”
~ Dale Carnegie (1888-1955) American Educator
